Design Ethnos Studio

Where culture meets creation. Design Ethnos Studio is the design research arm of the INSIGHT Centre for Design, Technology and Creative Arts, located in the culturally rich and historically vibrant Willingdon Island, Kochi, Kerala. At the intersection of ethnography and design thinking, the studio explores how cultural practices, everyday life, and lived traditions can inform innovative, context-sensitive design solutions. We believe that meaningful design emerges not just from inspiration, but from deep immersion in people’s realities, values, and environments. Rooted in Kerala’s rich heritage and reflective of India’s diverse cultural fabric, the studio engages in field research, participatory design, and storytelling-based methods to connect traditional wisdom with contemporary challenges—be it in crafts, public systems, social innovation, or user experience.
